Antique, circa 1944 Signed Ricilc Jancirc and AE on the inside of glass with gold leaf and gold motif trim. Blue Morpho Butterfly Wings Photo Frame. A Wood and Gold Gilt Leaf Motif Frame. The Blue Morpho Butterfly (Morpho menelaus) is an iridescent blue butterfly (dazzling electric blue color) from South American rain forests.

Gorgeous piece of vintage collectible butterfly wing art, doubly great because it is a OLD picture / photo frame from Rio De Janeiro. You see a lot of trays and bowls, but not so many frames. with original makers label on back of frame. Label Marked: INDUSTRIA BRASILEIRA ATELIER ELIZABETH R.D. GERARDO 44 RIO DE JANEIRO and a Butterfly Symbol. Outside measurements of frame are 11-1/2" by 9.0". Nice mixture of different wings including the iridescent blue Morpho, some striped, some orange and others -- looks like a total of maybe 7 different types of butterfly or moth to make the total design. Inside blue butterfly wings and two scenes is approx. 9.0" by 6-5/8". Center opening for art or photo area is approx 5.0" x 3-1/2". Would be beautiful with a small watercolor piece or your favorite photo. Another idea would be to put a mirror in the frame with the wings circling it.

Overall very good vintage condition to be approx. 66 years old. Frame has some tiny chips and wood lost in the exterior of the frame. We would probably touch up these up with a dark marker to make them invisible, but will leave that to the new owner. Also a small amount of light wear visible in a couple tiny spots of the wing design, but not enough to detract. Please see photos, and our apologies for the glare. It was difficult to get good photos with the glass in place and the shadows reflecting off the surface. You will not be disappointed in this one! Estate Piece.
