Nicely polished, large pewter Pitcher measures approx. 8.0" high by 5.0" bottom diameter by 7.0" width (spout to handle) The wood handle is either teak or rosewood. We believe this piece was manufactured prior to 1979, before it became Kirk Stieff but we are not sure.
Overall good vintage condition. with some surface scratches to the metal, so would need to be polished, but we see no dents....Check out the magnified photo. Has a nice form to the handle
History/Info: ~ Charles Stieff founded Stieff Silver in 1892. His first factory and retail store resided in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. Stieff, like his peer Samuel Kirk, utilized an ancient style of silver design known as "repousse", in which pattern design was added by applying force to the inner wall of silver pieces and "popping out" the desired design.
In 1939, Stieff began to produce silver for Colonial Williamsburg, Inc. They signed a deal to produce replicas of authentic works by the likes of Paul Revere, Jacob Hurd, John Burt, and Charles LeRoux. The pieces would be sold under the "Colonial Williamsburg" stamp, and sold in Williamsburg as well as at Stieff retail stores.
In 1979, Stieff bought Samuel Kirk and Sons. Kirk-Stieff was an exciting combination of two of America's most influential silver firms.
