Vintage ~ American Indian 1950s, Handcrafted, Wood/Paper Doll ~ Walking Toy ~ With PAT. stamped on bottom.
This a interesting, fun and collectible piece from the 1950s. The handpainted wood face/head is round and has two straight wooden legs with flat wood bottoms attached. When placed on a flat surface, the legs move and with a slight touch...The Indian's movement has a walking and bobbing effect.
The body is made of a heavy card-board, cone shapped, with a paper Indian dressed image attached. The head piece is made of paper.
Measures approx. 4-1/8" high, 1-1/2" largest diameter. Excellent vintage working condition. The only wear is at the top of paper head piece, it has some age wrinkles and light creases.
History: People have made dolls for thousands of years for use as religious objects, toys, and for displays. Many traditional dolls, like the American Indian, and others, are still highly desirable today. Many early American dolls were made of rags, cloth or wood and are a reminder of the simple life in the 18th and 19th centuries.
